In seafood restaurants — especially in Pattaya, Hua Hin, and Jomtien — menus show prices per 100 grams rather than per dish, in small print. A crab dish listed at '180 THB' may actually be 180 THB per 100g, and a 500g crab costs 900 THB. Some restaurants show a 'tourist menu' with reasonable-looking prices, then bill from a different 'Thai menu' with higher rates. Others add undisclosed charges for rice, ice, table settings, or cooking style. Seafood priced by weight may be weighed before cooking (including shell and water). Some places do not display prices at all — staff says 'fresh today, good price' — and the bill arrives at 5-10x what you expected.
