Near river piers (especially Sathorn Pier for the Chao Phraya Tourist Boat), Khao San Road, and around BTS stations, unofficial 'agents' approach tourists and sell tickets for boat tours, island trips, or bus services at 2-5x the official price. Some tickets are for legitimate services but vastly overpriced; others are for low-quality operators with overcrowded boats, no insurance, or hidden surcharges. At Sathorn Pier, the public express boat costs 15-40 THB, but touts sell 'tourist boat' tickets for 150-200 THB. On Khao San Road, bus tickets to Chiang Mai or the islands are sold with multiple commission stops along the way.
